An Aussie holiday firm that boasted that its customers could “travel more and spend less” has plunged into liquidation.
melbourne-based AVG Travels, which offered discounted international travel to thousands of Aussies, appointed liquidators this week – leaving customers scrambling to fix their plans.
The announcement follows days of uncertainty for customers, who reported their tours were being cancelled or placed under review just days before they were scheduled to depart.
The company has appointed insolvency firm McGrathNicol as its liquidator. It will take control of AVG Travels’ operations and assess what can be recovered for customers and creditors.
The company’s website remains live and continues to display advertisements for major savings on holidays to Japan, Sri Lanka and China, among other trips.
However, visitors are initially met with a brief notice in a pop-up window describing the situation.
It states: “Matthew Hutton and Mark Holland of McGrathNicol were appointed liquidators of AVG Travels Pty Ltd (In Liquidation) on 26 May 2026.
“Please direct any queries to McGrathNicol on [email protected].”
The same notice was printed and placed on the door of the firm’s headquarters in Melbourne.
